Captain Powell joined CAP in September 2010. Prior to joining CAP he was a member of Iredell Rescue for 18 years and served at various times as a captain and assistant chief. During his service at Iredell Rescue, he also held the following certifications: Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Rescue Technician and Rescue Technician. During his time at Iredell Rescue he was also a member of Iredell Search and Rescue, a division of Iredell Rescue where he served as assistant search coordinator. In addition, he has taught land search classes to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department, members of various fire departments, and Rescue Squads throughout Iredell County.
He is employed as part of the management team at L. Gordon Iron & Metal. He is married to Kelsie Powell and has a daughter and son. He holds an AAS in Diesel Equipment and Technology from Wilkes Community College and a BS in Management from Lipscomb University.
CAPTAIN ROGER C. AYSCUE
MER-NC-162 Iredell Composite Squadron Deputy Commander of Cadets
Roger Ayscue joined the US Army July 1st 1982. He served in various duty positions including Cavalry Scout, Unit Armorer, and in every aspect of an Airborne Light Infantry Unit, from Rifleman, Grenadier, RTO, Team Leader, Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. He served in combat as a Senior Scout and RTO with a Long Range Surveillance Company (LRSC). He served as a team leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant with Co B, 3rd Battalion 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Div. Site Commander of a remote Recon site in Sinai, Egypt with the Multi-National Force and Observers, as an Instructor with the XVIII Airborne Corps Advanced Marksmanship Training Unit, and as an instructor with Company B, 2d Battalion, 29th Infantry Anti-Armor Leaders Course. He retired 1 September 2005. Some of his past assignments include the 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg NC; 2d Infantry, Korea; US Army Infantry Center, Fort Benning, GA; F Co 51st (Airborne)(Long Range Surveillance) Germany; 1st Armored Division, Germany.
Since Retirement, he has been the Military and Law Enforcement Sales Manager for Hyatt Guns Shop. He is a multi-discipline Instructor with the National Rifle Association, Hunter Education, and North Carolina Conceal Carry instructor. He has been a member of Civil Air Patrol since November 2013
LIEUTENANT COLONEL RICHARD A. ROWAN

Lt. Col. Rowan is a Vietnam combat veteran and retired Air Force officer. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1967 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and received his master’s degree in Aerospace Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1972. After completing Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training and combat crew training he was assigned to the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Tan Son Nhut AB, RVN where he flew 165 combat missions in the RF-4C Phantom II from 1969 to 1970. During his career Lt. Col Rowan served in various assignments in the US, Pacific, and Europe to include a tour as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies in the AFROTC program at East Carolina University.
Lt. Col Rowan joined the Civil Air Patrol in 2009. He is also actively assisting veterans and others afflicted with the symptoms of post-traumatic stress. He is married to Vicki B. Rowan. They have one son.
